I’ve heard a lot of friends say “wait, if God loves me….then why does it hurt so much?”…and what a great question it is. Didn’t Jesus die to set us FREE from all this pain? Why does it feel even ‘worse’ to believe than to not believe right?
If you don’t feel like reading today (or even if you do), watch this video:

SUNDAY! Was really looking forward to today for two reasons:
- Being back at my church New Hope Fellowship
- Being back at St Stephens Soup Kitchen/TCWC
Last week I was uptown with mom for New Year’s day so really missed going to both.
Yet…despite this, I still slept at 5am the night before and woke up at 2:30pm. Rushed to church right away and arrived at 3pm, catching just the end of the sermon. Ironic because I had posted this on FB the day before:
…..lol
Day 2 of #366love (02 Jan 2012)
Was watching a bunch of youtube/godtube videos with mom last night until like 4am and this one by the Skit Guys on ‘Grace’ especially stuck with me.
Watch the video FIRST and THEN read the below.
Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.” Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same. - Matthew 26:33
“Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed. And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.” - Matthew 26:74-75
“But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” - Mark 16:7
Peter was a man of contradictions - impulsive and bold, yet affectionate and loyal. He was always a man who ‘rushed in’ first as he eagerly responded to the call to follow Jesus, left his old life, yet often made tons of mistakes. Heck, right after being blessed by Jesus for correctly recognizing Him as “the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16b), he was harshly rebuked shortly after by Jesus (because he denied that Jesus would suffer and die) with the words “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” (Matthew 16:23)
How sweet it would have been, even after ACTUALLY denying Jesus 3 times and feeling the huge disappointment, guilt and the shame over him to hear that his name had been SPECIFICALLY mentioned by the risen Christ. Despite his unfaithfulness, he was still assured of God’s love for him. What was unforgivable was forgiven.
History tells the rest. Peter spent the rest of his days proclaiming boldly the good news of the Lord he once denied, but now without any doubt. He became a mighty witness to the gospel of Jesus, finally sealing his faith with his own blood in martyrdom. Peter left us a legacy of one who failed, but, with the power of Jesus, had a new beginning, and meaningful life for the glory of God.
I’m encouraged. Despite how unfaithful I’ve been last year, there is still an abundant Grace that is steadfast and everlasting. May we continually learn to receive God’s Grace in this New Year just as Peter did 2000 years ago.
Starting a new blog for the new year!!! Going to put this account aside and aim to update this new one with stories/reflections/tidbits on each day ~11pm with the challenge to “receive” God’s love every day and “give” love out of that.
“We love because he first loved us.” - 1 John 4:19
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” - 1 John 4:11
